Forrest Mims, an amateur scientist whose research has appeared in leading scientific journals, was named one of the “50 Best Brains in Science” by Discover Magazine. His design of a hand-held instrument that measures the ozone layer earned a Rolex Award, and his books about electronics have sold 7.5 million copies.
